BALLET has very particular rules about how a dancer must stand and move which produces a different form of dance from any other discipline. Ballet is largely based on an aesthetic form of dance where a good body alignment must be maintained to both prevent injury and also to produce elegant movement. It is a classic form of dance characterised by graceful and precise movement. Ballet can be an expressive form of art, telling stories and showing emotions. This is generally known as the building block to all future disciplines of dance.
MODERN / JAZZ is a very unique form of dance, it is high energy and performed at a fast pace whilst still producing soft controlled movements. It includes a large variety of movements such as kicks, turns, and leaps and requires a good level of flexibility. Jazz is a slight alternative to ballet, which still requires graceful movements and discipline. This form requires a knowledge of many different forms before they can be incorporated together to produce modern / jazz dance routines.
LYRICAL or contemporary dance as it is also known, requires excellent technique, incorporating difficult and precise movements. This form encapsulates the essential skills from modern dance, jazz and ballet. The dancer must be aware of facial expressions to perform lyrical work.
CHARACTER a wide variety of dramatic activities will be attempted and explored through dance. The dancer must be aware of facial expressions to perform a character piece.
TAP is a fun lively form of dance that got it’s name from the sound made when the metal plates on the sole of the dance shoes hit or tap on a wooden floor. This is a very light and elegant dancing style, containing classical elements.
